A surgical unit for routine (non-emergency, elective) operations, usually for which there is an NHS waiting list. Most DTC cases are day cases or require only a short hospital stay. Because DTCs do elective work only, they are unaffected by unscheduled emergency work, resulting in fewer cancelled operations than other NHS hospitals
